Chez Dre - Round 2

As promised in my previous post on Chez Dre, here's Round 2. :)

Chez Dre often comes up with new and different desserts, which gives me even more reasons to head back again and again.

Then again, being the sweet tooth that I am, I don't really need reasons to have desserts. :P

This pretty looking cake is the vanilla yogurt mousse with raspberry jelly and pistachio biscuit. Similar to the blood orange mousse cake, all the elements were put together so beautifully well.

Neatly embedded within the mousse is a small piece of raspberry jelly, and the base of pistachio biscuit further adds a nice crunch to the cake. I really love the texture combination!

Next up is the Jasmine Cream Tea with milk chocolate mousse and flourless chocolate biscuit. Sitting atop the cake, is a jasmine flavoured jelly-textured thingy and white chocolate.

I really love how fragrant the cake is with jasmine tea incorporated. The jasmine tea flavour wasn't too overwhelming, but neither was it too subtle to be overpowered by the chocolate elements. Spot on!

This pretty Milk Chocolate Blackcurrant Mousse with blackcurrant cream and praline crunch, topped with a blackcurrant macaron, has made it to one of the top of my "Favourite Cakes" list. It is not only pretty, but super duper yummeh!

The mousse was creamy and soft, but it wasn't too rich. What I also really liked about this cake was the crunchy yet light praline base which added a hint of nuttyness and also a different texture to the cake. I could easily eat it all and not share! :D

And that mini macaron, oh, it was a perfect addition!

Enough of all the sweets before I start drooling again over my own foodporn pictures, let's move to a little bit of savoury.

Although the brunch/lunch didn't shout spectacular, I still made it a point to head back to Chez Dre for brunch. I don't usually give second chances that often, but Chez Dre was kind of like an exception because I've got friends who've raved on and on about how good the food is.

A friend of mine swear by the Morrocan baked eggs with spicy herb lamb sausages, minted yogurt and warm baguette.

And whilst I agree that it's good, it's not something that I could eat and not get 'jelak' (a Malay slang which means one is surfeited by an excess of food, too much of the same food, or with food that is too rich, to the extent that one is repulsed by it).

The Boyfriend really liked it though! I know because he polished it all despite being full already and has since said to me a number of times, "Let's head back to that place at South Melbourne for the Morrocan baked eggs". Not in the exact same words, but something along those lines, if you know what I mean.

I, on the other hand, had the Croque Madame - the usual smoked ham and gruyere cheese grilled sandwich topped with bechamel sauce and a fried egg.

It is indeed just the usual Croque Madame, and definitely not as spectacular as the Boyfriend's Moroccan baked eggs.

Whilst I am not convinced that I would return again for their brunch menu, I definitely would for their desserts.

I know they've came up with heaps more new desserts (I saw a friend check in at Chez Dre and made her take a picture of the cakes on display) which I am dying to try!!

Chez Dré on Urbanspoon
Hmmm, I think I know where I'll be heading to next weekend! ;) Cafe Sweethearts for brunch, then Chez Dre for some sweets. Done deal!

And if you're not already 'jelak' of me blogging about the same place, there could possibly 'Chez Dre- Round 3'! ;)

I do agree with you about the desserts. They are really good and well balanced. Not the macarons though. The brunch is surprisingly underwhelming, considering the quality of the desserts!

I've only tried three of their macarons, two out of three was good, but not the best I've had. And yeah, the brunch is just not up to par.
